The successful 2007 release of the Twentieth Anniversary Ibanez RG550 guitars only whetted guitar dealer and player appetites for the original RG designs. What they wanted was more RG reissues — especially the RG770DX with its matching color body, knobs, headstock, pickups, and sharktooth inlays. The RG770DX epitomized the philosophy of metal excess in the early 90’s.
“The 2008 RG770DX has all the goods that made the originals such coveted collectors items: basswood body finished in either LB Laser Blue or RR Ruby Red, original Edge tremolo with its great feel and tone, USA-made DiMarzio/IBZ pickups and, perhaps most important of all, the original thin, flat, and fast Wizard neck,” remarked Pete Chiovarou of Ibanez. “Actually, not exactly the original Wizard neck. The dimensions are the same, but the 2008 version features 5pc maple/walnut construction for even greater strength and stability. And, like the originals, the 2008 Ibanez RG770DX limited production reissue is a peerless example of precision Japanese craftsmanship.”
The list price of the RG770DX is $1733.32. The price includes a deluxe hardshell case. GuitarCenter.com
